Stop Sending Taxpayers' Money to the World

Uncle Sam sends billions of dollars in foreign aid to various countries around the world, trying to effect policy, but usually with either little effect or adverse consequences.  It's about time that our nation saved money and focused on our own domestic concerns by staying out of other nation's affairs, conflicts and entanglements, by and large.  When President George Washington said the United States should stay out of foreign entanglements, some may say that seems quaint in 2014, but "quaint" sounds sensible in today's hodgepodge of international messes, and the best foreign policy we could have.

Post-script:  If elected, I will sponsor a bill to limit all foreign aid to all other countries to nothing other than humanitarian aid and limited to a single billion dollars, in aggregate, in any one annual budget period, although waivers could be allowed under this bill for economic or defense purposes under strict circumstances, extreme emergencies, and a simple majority vote in the House of Representatives and the Senate, though still, except for a super-majority vote, must remain within the one billion dollar aggregate spending limit.  A 2/3 majority in the House and Senate could approve increased amounts for waivers, but the increase could be no more than 50% of the original overall funding mandate.  If enacted, 1.5 billion dollars would be the absolute most that could be spent on foreign aid in a year, which would be a huge reduction in current expenditures for foreign aid, a fairly big slice of the overall budget.

The United States should stop arming the wars of foreigners.

Time for America to turn inward.

Our Washington State Lieutenant Governor Candidate Blog

There will be a special place to write about the Lieutenant Governor 2016 election, which I'm in, and specifically Washington state issues and matters, generally, even when the election is over.  All of the recent Lieutenant Governor posts on FW Politics  will be carried over to the new blog, Washingtonian.   I am proud to be a natural-born American and a Washingtonian, and I will need your vote to stand up for the Common Man in our state and our nation.   [Originally posted on Washingtonian on April 29, 2016; revised on May 26, 2016.]

With the Press, Again

As long-time readers of my blogs know, my relationship with the media has been acrimonious at times, though I realize, of course, that the press is an essential part of politics and democracy in our nation, and of course the relationship between politicians and the press is going to be often disharmonious because they have distinctly different interests.  That doesn't mean that one or both sides cannot be at fault at varying times, and both sides often are. So with all that in mind, my first thought today is, though I am sure that the H-1B system for hiring temporary foreign workers has been widely abused, there is a big distinction between that system and the system for permanent residents being in the job market.  In the interest of my views being as publicly accurate as possible, I'll say this: I more or less support the law that infers that official permanent residents should be treated...
