As a result of the incompetence of the Iraqi Maliki regime, and the perfidy of Bush/Cheney 12 years ago, Iraq appears to be on the verge of a major civil war after several years of skirmishes between ethnic, religious and political divisions. Now, politicians in America want Uncle Sam to get involved in that morass, again, after many of these same politicians are the same ones that started it in the first place when they backed Bush II's call for the invasion of Iraq from 2002 - 2003. This new call for overt interventionism should be rejected. Our nation must defend against threats from fanatical organizations by choosing our battles judiciously, wisely and without creating a climate that would broaden regional sympathy for religious fanatics or terrorists. Getting mixed up in the Iraqi civil war in a major way would not be the least bit smart, and lest we forget, Congressional consent is necessary for new military interventions that are not logically connected with the consents given in the period from 2001 - 2002.
America needs to turn inward and the rest of the world can work out their own problems without interventionism by us in every part of the world. [Advice, yes. Diplomacy, yes. Defense against threats, yes. Meddling and unnecessary interventionism, no.] It's time for America to close off from the rest of the world, stop being a magnet for the world's migrants, stop changing our culture simply for international approval, and to go about our own economic business by creating clean, renewable energy alternatives, rebuilding our manufacturing sector, and trading with each other. These goals would be basically creating the American economy for Americans. We are a big, continental country, and generally speaking, we don't need the rest of the world or their problems, but that's not the same as saying that we shouldn't have international and humanitarian concerns, and therefore some engagement. It doesn't matter what curious customs or practices that they have abroad for themselves, even popularly approved monarchies or dictatorships for that matter, as long as they mind their own business; though, conversely we should mind ours.' The electorate can keep electing the same old politicians that seem to have illusions of world grandeur, or they can elect people that just want a republic. For sure, a battle hardened republic that will face any hardship and oppose any foe, although one that basically wants to stay to herself and be herself.
